ANIMALS SHELTER ASSISTANT
So what exactly is it like to volunteer?
Volunteering is a fantastic way to travel abroad, give back to people in need, and develop yourself as a person. The experience you gain from giving your time and care for others is like no other. You will make a huge difference and uplift those around you, as long as you stay motivated, positive, and focused on your mission.
Why Tanzania?
Tanzania is a bright, beautiful, and amazing country to visit, attracting thousands of travelers every year. Its capital, Dar es Salaam, sits on a breathtaking coastline, just an hour from the paradise island of Zanzibar. In the north, Arusha lies under the shadows of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru.
Tanzania is home to many famous safari parks and game reserves where visitors from around the world come to see spectacular wildlife. The people are warm and gracious, and the country is multicultural, with hundreds of tribes and ethnicities, the most famous being the nomadic Maasai tribe. Rich in culture and stunning landscapes, Tanzania is truly an exciting part of Africa to explore.

The Problem
Animal welfare is a major concern in Tanzania. While efforts have been made to preserve wildlife, domestic animals in towns and cities are often abandoned, forgotten, or mistreated. There are very few trained veterinarians to treat or vaccinate domestic animals or raise local awareness for animal welfare. As a result, many animals:
Go unvaccinated
Are left sick and untreated
Are abused or badly treated
Are abandoned on the streets
Become strays with no food or shelter
The Mission
Animal rescue centres in Arusha provide food, shelter, and new homes for animals at risk on the streets. By taking them off the streets, these centres protect animals from harm and deadly diseases like rabies. The animals receive the best available healthcare, with staff providing round-the-clock care.
Volunteer Role
As a volunteer, your time and effort help provide care for the rescued animals. Most animals at the centre are dogs and cats, including kittens and puppies requiring extra attention. Your responsibilities may include:
Feeding and caring for animals daily
Assisting or observing veterinary surgeries or medical treatments
Taking dogs for daily walks
Supporting staff in treating injured or sick animals
Helping with community awareness initiatives
Contributing donations to support the ongoing work of the project
